Read My Lips is a French film written and directed by Jacques Audiard and released in 2001. The movie tells the story of Carla, a nearly deaf office worker who is struggling to keep up with the demands of her job. One day, her boss hires Paul, an ex-convict, to be her assistant. Initially, Carla is hesitant to work with him, but as they spend more time together, she begins to sympathize with Paul's difficult past.

Despite the fact that she can read lips, Carla's coworkers still treat her as an outsider and often make fun of her behind her back. Paul, who has also experienced discrimination for his criminal history, understands Carla's struggles and the two develop a bond. Soon, Carla recruits Paul to help her with a plan to steal money from their office. As they work together on the scheme, they become closer and ultimately fall in love.

However, their plan goes awry and they find themselves on the run from the police. Throughout the film, Carla must rely on her lip-reading skills and quick thinking to navigate dangerous situations and keep Paul safe. Despite their differences, Carla and Paul find solace in each other and ultimately find a way to start a new life together.

Read My Lips is lauded for its complex characters and unconventional romance. The film received critical acclaim upon its release and was nominated for several awards, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
