The movie Read It and Weep centers around a 14-year-old girl named Jamie Bartlett, who dreams of becoming a writer. Jamie keeps a private journal where she writes down her thoughts, dreams, and fantasies. She is too shy to share her writing with anyone, not even her best friend, Connor.
One day, Jamie accidentally submits her journal as an assignment for her English class, thinking it was a rough draft of a story she was working on. Her teacher, Mrs. Howard, is so impressed with Jamie's writing that she shares it with a publisher, who decides to publish it as a novel called "Isabella" under the pseudonym of Jamie's alter ego.
The book becomes a best-seller, and Jamie's life takes a turn she never expected. Overnight, she becomes a celebrity with fans and interview requests flooding in.
