Ransom: The Price of Power

Thriller,Drama  Belgium,France

Rapt is a French thriller film released in 2009. It is directed by Lucas Belvaux and stars Yvan Attal, Anne Consigny, André Marcon, and Françoise Fabian.

The story is about Stanislas Graff, a wealthy industrialist who is kidnapped in broad daylight from his car while he is on his way to work. The kidnappers demand a ransom of 50 million euros, the largest ever asked in France.

Graff is taken to a house in the suburbs of Paris and kept in a small room with no windows. He is tied to a bed and blindfolded, and is only allowed to use the bathroom twice a day. He is given food and water, but is not allowed to communicate with anyone, not even his family.

Graff's family, including his wife and children, are devastated by his kidnapping. They receive a series of ransom demands from the kidnappers, who are identified as a group of young men from a poor neighborhood. The family tries to negotiate with the kidnappers, but they are unwilling to budge on their demands.

Meanwhile, the police and the board of Graff's company work together to try to find him. They use surveillance footage and other means to track down the kidnappers, but their efforts are hampered by the fact that they have no idea where Graff is being held.

As the days go by, Graff's physical and mental health begin to deteriorate. He becomes increasingly desperate and frightened, and starts to lose hope that he will ever be rescued. His family and colleagues also grow weary and disillusioned with the situation, and begin to question whether the ransom should be paid at all.

In the end, the film explores issues of power, wealth, and morality, and asks whether the lives of the rich and powerful are worth more than those of ordinary people. The final twist of the movie is that the ransom of 50 million euros is never paid and Graff is released without it.
