Raging Bull is a biographical sports drama film released in 1980, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro as Jake LaMotta. The movie portrays the life of Jake LaMotta, a middleweight boxer who rises through the ranks of the sport but battles with inner demons throughout his career.
The film is based on LaMotta's autobiography, Raging Bull: My Story. The story begins in the early 1940s when LaMotta is just starting his career. He is portrayed as a violent and insecure person who has a troubled family life, especially with his wife Vickie, who he continously accuses of cheating on him.
The movie shows how LaMotta's life spirals out of control due to his anger and jealousy, leading him to lose everything he has worked hard for. He becomes estranged from his family, and his behavior causes him to lose his boxing title, his money, and even his friends.
Despite these setbacks, LaMotta is determined to make a comeback, but he is never able to regain his former glory. The story ends with LaMotta's retirement from boxing and his attempt to reconcile with his family.
Raging Bull was not initially a commercial success but has since become a cult classic and is widely regarded as one of the best sports dramas ever made. De Niro's portrayal of Jake LaMotta is also considered one of his best performances, and the film won two Academy Awards, including Best Actor for De Niro.
