The movie Radio is based on the true story of James Robert Kennedy, a mentally-disabled man who was nicknamed "Radio" by the people of Anderson, South Carolina. The movie begins with Radio being shunned and teased by his peers, until the football coach of T.L. Hanna High School, Harold Jones, befriends him.

At first, Radio is hesitant and frightened, but Coach Jones takes him under his wing and helps him develop his social skills. Radio soon becomes a fixture at the school, attending classes and helping out with the football team. His enthusiasm and positive attitude begin to rub off on everyone around him, and he becomes an inspiration to the community.

However, not everyone is happy about Radio's presence at the school, and some parents and community members begin to express their concern. Coach Jones finds himself in the middle of a controversy, as he tries to balance his loyalty to Radio with his responsibilities as a coach and educator.

As the years go by, Radio becomes more and more comfortable with the people at T.L. Hanna High School, and his bond with Coach Jones deepens. Together, they weather the ups and downs of life, and continue to inspire those around them.
