Raazi is a 2018 Hindi-language spy thriller film, directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta. The movie is based on the novel "Calling Sehmat" written by Harinder Sikka.
The movie is set in 1971, during the Indo-Pakistani War. Alia Bhatt plays Sehmat, an Indian Kashmiri woman who is married to Iqbal, a Pakistani military officer, played by Vicky Kaushal. Sehmat is actually an Indian spy who is sent to Pakistan as a part of a mission to gather intelligence information for India. She takes the marriage as an opportunity to get close to Iqbal's family, particularly his father, who is a high-ranking officer in the Pakistani navy.
Sehmat is trained in espionage techniques before she is sent to Pakistan, where she is first shocked by the harsh realities of military life and then begins to gather intelligence information. She passes on information to her Indian handlers through coded messages. The situation becomes more complex for Sehmat when she realizes that Iqbal is not just the man she is supposed to spy on, but someone whom she has grown to love.
As the war intensifies, Sehmat's mission becomes more dangerous, and she has to navigate the tricky political landscape of a war-torn country. Raazi is a gripping spy thriller that showcases the bravery and sacrifices made by Sehmat and other unsung heroes who played crucial roles in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
