Jamie Grover is a 15-year-old girl who longs for independence and a break from her overbearing parents. When she discovers that her mother is pregnant, she sees this as an opportunity to finally have some freedom. However, her mother ends up giving birth to quintuplets, leaving Jamie feeling even more suffocated than before.
Her parents become completely consumed with taking care of the five babies, leaving Jamie feeling neglected and overlooked. Her father quits his job to become a stay-at-home dad and her mother becomes an obsessive germaphobe, constantly sanitizing everything in sight.
Things come to a head when one of the babies becomes seriously ill and needs surgery. Jamie is forced to confront the reality that she does care about her siblings and is willing to help out, even if it means sacrificing some of her own desires.
Throughout the movie, Jamie struggles with finding her place within her family and figuring out what she wants for her own future. She discovers that it's possible to love and care for her family while still pursuing her own dreams. In the end, she stands up to her parents and tells them that she wants to go away to college, a decision that they eventually come to support.
