Quills is a 2000 film directed by Philip Kaufman and starring Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix, and Michael Caine. The film is loosely based on the life of the Marquis de Sade, a French nobleman and infamous writer known for his erotic and often violent works.

As the Marquis's writing gains popularity in Paris, it draws the attention of Dr. Royer-Collard (Michael Caine), a conservative doctor who is determined to silence him. With the backing of Napoleon Bonaparte, who sees the Marquis's work as a dangerous influence on French society, Royer-Collard seeks to have the writer silenced by any means necessary.
