Quest for Fire is a 1981 French-Canadian adventure film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The film is based on the 1911 novel "The Quest for Fire" by J. H. Rosny.
Set in prehistoric times, the film follows a small tribe of primitive humans who depend on fire to survive. When their fire is accidentally extinguished, three of the tribe's members venture out into the dangerous wilderness to find a new source of fire.
The trio encounter various obstacles along the way, including rival tribes and ferocious predators. They also meet new tribes, some of whom have learned to make fire from scratch.
The film is notable for its detailed depiction of prehistoric life. The characters speak in a fictional language with no subtitles, forcing the audience to rely on body language and gestures to understand the plot.
