The Shady Politician

Comedy  Italy

Qualunquemente is a 2011 Italian comedy film directed by Giulio Manfredonia. The film follows the story of Cetto La Qualunque, a corrupt and immoral entrepreneur who returns to his native village in southern Italy after spending several years in exile in a foreign country. Soon after his return, Cetto realizes that his main rival in the upcoming mayoral election is his former employee Giovanni De Santis, a respectable and honest man who is beloved by the local community.

Determined to win the election by any means necessary, Cetto decides to enter politics himself and uses his wealth and influence to bribe, intimidate, and manipulate the local population. With the help of his loyal but incompetent nephew and his ruthless right-hand man, Cetto engages in a series of shady and illegal activities, such as vote-buying, blackmailing, and spreading false rumors about his opponent.

However, as the election approaches, Cetto begins to experience a change of heart and realizes the true value of honesty, integrity, and social responsibility. He decides to confess his crimes and support Giovanni's candidacy, but it may be too late to undo the damage he has caused. In the end, the villagers must decide whether to forgive Cetto's past misdeeds and embrace a new era of transparency and democracy or succumb to their old habits and prejudices.

Overall, Qualunquemente is a satirical and politically incorrect comedy that criticizes the corruption and cynicism that plague Italian politics and society. It features a stellar cast, including the acclaimed comedian Antonio Albanese in the lead role, and combines humor, drama, and social commentary in a highly entertaining and thought-provoking way.
