Purple Rain is a 1984 American musical drama film directed by Albert Magnoli, starring the late musician Prince in his film debut. It is loosely based on Prince's life and career and centers around a talented musician known as "The Kid" (played by Prince) who struggles with his abusive home life and rocky relationships.

When The Kid meets Apollonia (played by Apollonia Kotero), an aspiring singer who is new to town, he sees in her the potential for a musical partner and love interest. As they work together to perfect their craft and find success, The Kid must also confront his own personal demons and the toxic relationships in his life, including his troubled relationship with his father (played by Clarence Williams III) and his tumultuous romance with his bandmate, Morris (played by Morris Day).

Set against the backdrop of the Minneapolis music scene, Purple Rain features electrifying musical performances by Prince and his band, The Revolution, including hits such as "Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," and the iconic title track, "Purple Rain." The film was a commercial and critical success, grossing over $68 million at the box office and winning Prince an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.
