Proud Mary is an action thriller film directed by Babak Najafi. Mary (Taraji P. Henson) is a highly-skilled hitwoman working for the Boston crime family led by Benny (Danny Glover) and his son Tom (Billy Brown). Mary’s life takes a turn when a job goes wrong and she crosses paths with Danny (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), a young boy living in a dangerous environment.
Danny becomes orphaned after Mary guns down his father in front of him during an attempted hit. Feeling guilty for what she has done, Mary takes Danny under her wing and tries to protect him from the deadly gang world he’s caught up in. As Mary spends more time with Danny, she develops a maternal bond with him, leaving her divided loyalty between the world of crime and protecting the boy.
As Mary struggles to keep Danny safe, she must navigate through the dangerous landscape of Boston and the organized crime family she works for. The film also explores her rocky relationship with her mentor and lover, fellow hitman Marcus (played by Danny Glover's son John David Glover).
