Prophecy is a horror film released in 1979, directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Talia Shire, Robert Foxworth, and Armand Assante. The movie centers around a logging company located in the woods of Maine, where the workers have been dumping toxic substances into the water supply. As a result, a local bear has grown to an enormous size and become uncontrollably aggressive.
When a group of environmental activists, including Dr. Robert Verne (Foxworth) and his wife Maggie (Shire), arrive in town to investigate the pollution, they discover the terrifying existence of the mutant bear. They soon realize that the creature is not only killing locals, but also passing on its genetic mutations to its offspring, creating an even greater threat to the community.
As the body count rises, Verne and his team work to track down and stop the beast, culminating in a final showdown in the woods. Prophecy is known for its visceral, realistic gore and unique creature effects, which were created using a combination of puppetry and prosthetics.
