In Promises to Keep, Jonathan and Evelyn were high school sweethearts, passionately in love with each other. However, their relationship was cut short when Evelyn decided to marry one of Jonathan's divorced friends, in defiance of the Catholic Church's teachings and Jonathan's wishes.
Over the years, Jonathan and Evelyn went their separate ways, with Evelyn raising her family and Jonathan becoming more involved in the church and trying to convince Evelyn to come back to her faith. Their paths crossed occasionally, but there was always a tension between them due to their past.
Now, 30 years later, their children fall in love and plan to get married. This brings Jonathan and Evelyn back into each other's lives in a big way. As they navigate planning their children's wedding, they are forced to confront their past and the feelings they still have for each other.
Jonathan realizes that his attempts to bring Evelyn back to her faith were misguided and that he was really just seeking to reconnect with her. Evelyn, on the other hand, reveals that her marriage was not as happy as it appeared and that she still loves Jonathan too.
As they work together to make their children's wedding perfect, Jonathan and Evelyn rediscover the love they once had for each other. They promise to keep each other and their faith close to their hearts and finally put the past behind them.
