Project A is an action-comedy film directed by and starring Jackie Chan, released in 1983. Set in late 19th century Hong Kong, the movie centers on the efforts of the Royal Hong Kong Maritime Police Force, led by Dragon Ma (Jackie Chan), to take down a ruthless gang of pirates who are terrorizing the waters. Along the way, Dragon Ma teams up with a motley crew of fellow law enforcement officers, including Sergeant Sam (Sammo Hung) and Fei (Yuen Biao), as well as a beautiful revolutionary named Yee (Rosamund Kwan).
Among the standout action sequences in Project A are a thrilling motorcycle chase, a hilarious bar brawl, and a jaw-dropping finale in which Chan performs a series of dangerous stunts and acrobatics on board a giant clock tower. The movie also features Chan's trademark blend of slapstick comedy and death-defying stunts, as well as his infectious charisma and likability as a leading man.
Project A was a massive success in Hong Kong upon its release, and helped cement Jackie Chan's status as one of the biggest movie stars in Asia. It was followed by a sequel, Project A Part II, in 1987, which saw Chan reprise his role as Dragon Ma and once again battle a group of pirates.
