Infiltrating ISIS: The Online Trap

Thriller,Mystery  Cyprus,United Kingdom,United States of America,Russia

Profile is a 2018 thriller film directed by Timur Bekmambetov and based on the 2015 non-fiction book In the Skin of a Jihadist by French journalist Anna Erelle. The film follows Amy Whitaker (Valene Kane), a British journalist who creates a fake Facebook profile of a Muslim convert named Melody Nelson in order to investigate how ISIS recruits women to join their cause.

As Melody, Amy begins to interact online with an ISIS recruiter, who slowly builds a relationship with her and offers her the chance to come to Syria to marry him. While pretending to be Melody, Amy begins to have doubts about whether or not she is doing the right thing and whether or not she can handle the dangers of the situation.

The film is shot entirely on computer screens and smartphones, with the action taking place entirely online. This creates a sense of immediacy and realism, as the audience sees Amy's interactions in real time and experiences the tension and danger she faces.

Profile is a chilling look at how ISIS uses social media to recruit and radicalize young people, particularly women. The film is a powerful reminder of the dangers of online extremism and the importance of vigilance in the fight against terrorism.
