The movie Private Peaceful is based on the eponymous novel written by Michael Morpurgo. The story revolves around two brothers, Tommo (George MacKay) and Charlie Peaceful (Jack O'Connell), who have a deep bond with each other. They live in a small rural village in Devon with their family, who are tenant farmers under a wealthy landlord. Despite their difficult circumstances, Tommo and Charlie are content with their simple life, until they both fall in love with the same girl, Molly (Alexandra Roach).
As the war breaks out and the call for soldiers grows louder, the brothers are forced to join the army to fight in Flanders. Their experiences in the trenches are brutal and traumatizing.
