In the movie Private Eye, the young medical student named Kang Chul-min is studying in Tokyo but returns home to Korea to take care of his sick father. While running an errand for his father, he stumbles upon the body of a high-ranking government official's son.
Fearing that he will be accused of the murder as a Japanese-educated student, Kang decides to hire Hong Jin-ho - a private detective who is famous for his intelligence and investigation skills. Hong is reluctant to take up the case initially but ultimately agrees due to the large sum of money promised by Kang.
As they start investigating, they uncover a complex plot involving political intrigue and corruption. They are joined by a female journalist named Cho Su-in who is also investigating the case.
The trio faces multiple challenges and dangerous situations as they delve deeper into the case. They discover that the murdered man was involved in a secret organization that was plotting against the Korean government, which leads them to believe that the killer may be someone within the government.
The investigation takes many twists and turns, and the trio faces many obstacles. However, they continue to unravel the mystery that eventually leads them to the killer.
