Prison Song is a 2001 drama film that explores the life of a troubled African-American youth named Elijah (played by Q-Tip), who has a natural talent for art but is constantly bounced around group homes due to his troubled past. Despite his difficult circumstances, Elijah remains determined to pursue his passion for art and believes that it is the only thing that gives him purpose and direction in life.

However, Elijah's dreams of attending art school and pursuing a better life are shattered when a promised scholarship is taken away from him. This rejection and disappointment pushes Elijah over the edge, and he becomes involved in a violent altercation that leads to the death of another boy. As a result, Elijah is sentenced to a minimum of fifteen years in prison, where he must navigate the harsh reality of life behind bars.
