Pride & Prejudice is a romantic drama film directed by Joe Wright in 2005, based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name. Set in the early 19th century in England, the movie tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet, the second eldest of the Bennet sisters, who despite her mother's obsession with marrying them off to wealthy men, has a strong independent spirit and a disdain for upper-class arrogance.
When Mr. Bingley, a wealthy young man from the city, moves into the neighborhood, Mrs. Bennet sees an opportunity to marry off one of her daughters. Her hopes are raised when Bingley seems to take an interest in the eldest daughter, Jane. However, the arrival of Mr. Darcy, Bingley's snobbish friend, dampens Mrs. Bennet's plans, especially when he insults Elizabeth at a party.
