Andie Walsh is a teenage girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She lives with her father, who struggles to keep up with bills and drinks too much. Andie works at a record store and has a unique sense of style that sets her apart from her classmates. She is also friends with Duckie, a quirky and creative guy who has harbored a crush on her for years.
One day, Andie catches the eye of Blane McDonough, a popular and wealthy senior at her high school. Blane asks Andie out on a date, and she is thrilled. However, their relationship is met with disapproval from Blane's rich friends, who don't think Andie fits in with their crowd. Meanwhile, Duckie is jealous of Blane and acts out towards Andie, causing tension between them.
As Andie navigates her new relationship with Blane, she is forced to confront the class divide that exists between them. She struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy, wondering if she is good enough for someone like Blane. Andie also tries to maintain her friendship with Duckie, who is struggling to accept that Andie might be moving on without him.
The climax of the movie takes place at the prom, where Andie must choose between Blane and Duckie. Ultimately, Andie realizes that she cannot change who she is to fit in with Blane's crowd, and that she values her friendship with Duckie too much to let it go. The movie ends with Andie and Duckie dancing together, while Blane watches from afar.
