Practical Magic is a 1998 romantic comedy fantasy film directed by Griffin Dunne and starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian. Sally and Gillian are raised by their aunts, Jet and Frances Owens, who are both witches. The aunts warn the girls never to fall in love, as it brings a curse upon the family that all the men they love will die.

Despite this warning, Gillian falls in love with Jimmy Angelov, a sinister and abusive man who is eventually killed by Gillian in self-defense. In desperation, the sisters decide to use their magic to try and resurrect him. However, their spell goes wrong and instead of bringing Jimmy back to life, they create a living nightmare as Jimmy's death releases an evil spirit.

As they try to fix their mistake, Sally and Gillian must confront the curse that has haunted their family for generations, as well as their own fears and desires. Along the way, they are aided by a local police officer, Gary Hallet (played by Aidan Quinn), who becomes romantically involved with Sally.

The film deals with themes of love, loss, family, and the power and responsibility of magic. It received mixed reviews but has since become a cult classic.
