Ryden Malby is a recent college graduate who returns home to her family's house in Los Angeles after failing to find a job in the publishing industry like she had planned. She is joined at home by her eccentric family, including her father, Walter, a failed inventor; her mother, Carmella, who is determined to create a successful catering business; and her younger brother, Hunter, who is obsessed with becoming a chef.
Ryden's best friend, Adam, also returns home and begins working at a popular Los Angeles bar, while Ryden struggles to find a job. She finally lands an interview with publishing company, but experiences a series of job rejections until she is hired as an assistant editor at a publishing house.
While navigating her new job, Ryden is also trying to find a perfect guy, specifically her college crush, Adam Davies. She even goes on a disastrous date with her neighbor, David, who is in love with her and repeatedly tries to win her heart.
After finally going on a date with Adam, she realizes that her feelings for him are not reciprocated and she decides to focus on her career and her personal growth, including creating a children's book that she had always wanted to publish. In the end, Ryden learns to balance her personal and professional life and finds happiness and success in both.
