Popeye is a 1980 live-action musical comedy film directed by Robert Altman and starring Robin Williams as the titular character. The film is based on the comic strip character created by E.C. Segar.

Popeye is a sailor on a mission to find his father who abandoned him as a child. He arrives in the small town of Sweet Haven and starts living in a boarding house owned by the Oyl family. There, he meets Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall), a clumsy but kind-hearted woman, and falls in love with her. However, Olive is already engaged to Bluto (Paul L. Smith), a brutish and jealous fellow who rules over the town with his gang of tough guys.

Popeye's attempts to win Olive's heart are complicated by Bluto's constant interference. Popeye also has to contend with other obstacles, such as the local bully Wimpy (Paul Dooley) and a number of misadventures that befall him during his search for his father.

The film is notable for its unique, cartoonish visual style, which mimics the look of the original comic strip. It also features a number of catchy, upbeat musical numbers, including the famous "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man" theme song.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its release, Popeye has since become a cult classic and is beloved by many for its quirky humor and charming performances by Williams and Duvall.
