Elderly Cheerleaders Shake Things Up in Retirement Village

Comedy,Drama  N/A

Poms is a comedy-drama film that follows Martha, a retired woman who moves into a retirement community in Georgia. She is looking for a peaceful life to spend her remaining years quietly. However, her plans take a sudden turn when she meets her new neighbors, who are equally bored with their lives and looking for something new.

Martha's energetic and enthusiastic personality encourages the residents to form a cheerleading squad. Despite initial resistance from some of the residents, they eventually agree to give it a chance. The squad consists of women in their 60s and 70s, who begin practicing for an upcoming competition.

As they prepare for the competition, Martha builds relationships with her fellow residents and a friendship with Sheryl, played by Jacki Weaver, who is also part of the squad. The squad soon becomes a symbol of resilience and determination, showing that it is never too late to try something new.

Along the way, the residents confront social stigmas of aging and stereotypes that suggest they should limit their activities. The film also explores themes of loss and regrets, as the characters must overcome their fears and regrets to ultimately find joy and a sense of community.

Poms stars Diane Keaton as Martha and Jacki Weaver as Sheryl, along with a supporting cast of accomplished actors such as Pam Grier, Rhea Perlman, and Celia Weston. The movie has received mixed reviews but is widely praised for its heartwarming message and the performances of its cast.
