Police Story 2 is a 1988 Hong Kong action-comedy film directed by Jackie Chan and written by Chan and Edward Tang. It is a sequel to the 1985 film Police Story, and once again stars Chan as Inspector Chan Ka-kui, a Hong Kong police detective.
The film opens with Chan Ka-kui demoted to traffic duty after the events of the previous movie. However, a group of bombers, led by a man named Chu Tao (played by Benny Lai), begin terrorizing Hong Kong with a series of explosive attacks. Chan is reassigned to the Bomb Disposal Unit to stop them.
At the same time, a group of criminals who Chan had put away in the first movie, including Chu Tao's brother, are released from prison and seek revenge on Chan. They begin targeting him and his girlfriend, May (played by Maggie Cheung), and Chan must protect himself and his loved ones while also trying to stop the bombers before they strike again.
The film features a number of elaborate action set pieces, including a car chase through a shanty town and a climactic showdown at a fireworks factory. It was a commercial and critical success in Hong Kong and internationally, and is considered one of Chan's best films.
