In the third installment of the Police Academy series, Commandant Lassard and his bumbling recruits face a new challenge. Due to budget cuts, the governor announces that one of the two police academies in the city must close. To determine which one survives, the academies must compete against each other in a series of challenges.
The competition heats up as Mauser, a vindictive former lieutenant who was humiliated by Lassard and his team in the past, persuades two of Lassard's officers - Copeland and Blankes - to join his academy and help him win the competition.
However, Copeland and Blankes are not the brightest bulbs in the bunch, and their attempts to sabotage Lassard's team often backfire, resulting in comical mishaps and outrageous situations. Meanwhile, the recruits from both academies try their best to train and improve their skills.
The rivalry between the two academies reaches a climax during a simulated bank robbery in which both teams must put their training to the test. In the end, it is Lassard's team that emerges victorious, thanks to their ingenuity and teamwork.
In addition to the main plot, the movie features several subplots, including a romance between Lassard's nephew - a recruit at his academy - and a female officer from the rival academy, and a prank war between Mahoney and Zed, two recurring characters from the previous films.
Overall, Police Academy 3: Back in Training is a light-hearted and entertaining comedy that delivers plenty of laughs and slapstick humor.
