In the film Poetic Justice, Justice is dealing with the aftermath of her boyfriend's violent death. She copes by writing poetry and working as a hairdresser in a salon. Justice is not interested in love but that changes when she meets Lucky, a postal worker who is also dealing with his own personal struggles.

When Justice's boss at the salon fires her, she decides to go on a road trip with Lucky and his friend Chicago. During the trip, they encounter different people and experiences, including a roadside brawl, a visit to a family reunion, and a stop at a penitentiary where Justice confronts her past.

As the trio gets closer, Justice and Lucky begin to fall in love. However, when Chicago crosses a line and violates Justice's trust, their relationship is put to the test. In the end, Justice realizes that she must face her pain head-on in order to move forward and allow herself to love again.

The film stars Janet Jackson as Justice and Tupac Shakur as Lucky. The poetry featured in the film was written by acclaimed poet Maya Angelou. Directed by John Singleton, Poetic Justice explores themes of love, loss, and healing through the lens of African-American culture.
