Please Give is a 2010 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Nicole Holofcener. The movie stars Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt as a married couple, Kate and Alex, who run a vintage furniture store in New York City. The couple is desperately trying to expand their business, but they are faced with various challenges, which include dealing with their anxious teenage daughter, Abby, and dealing with their neighbors.

Their neighbor is a 91-year-old woman named Andra (Ann Morgan Guilbert), who lives in the apartment next to theirs. Andra is cantankerous and self-absorbed, but she is also frail and vulnerable. Kate and Alex spend a lot of time with Andra, trying to befriend her and do things for her, but they are really just waiting for her to die so that they can expand their business by buying her apartment.

Meanwhile, Kate and Alex's relationship is strained, as they struggle to communicate with each other and deal with the stresses of their lives. They both feel guilty about their wealth and privilege, and they are constantly trying to help others, including a homeless man who panhandles outside their store.

Their interactions with their neighbors' granddaughters, Rebecca (Rebecca Hall) and Mary (Amanda Peet), also add to their stress. Rebecca is a radiology technician who is struggling with her career and her relationship with her boyfriend. Mary is a cosmetologist who is bitter and resentful toward her grandmother and her husband.

As the movie progresses, Kate and Alex are forced to confront their own mortality and confront their relationship with Andra and her granddaughters. Nathan Lieberman (Josh Pais), a radiologist with whom Rebecca works, helps all of them come to terms with their issues and find some sort of resolution. Ultimately, the movie challenges viewers to confront their own assumptions and prejudices and to recognize the complex humanity of each individual.
