Playing God is a dark comedy that follows the lives of the siblings, Terry and Jenny, who have been conning people since childhood. They hatch a plan to scam a billionaire, Tony, whose wife has recently died, by convincing him they can connect him to God, who will speak to him in a face-to-face meeting.
The siblings set up a fake church where Tony is introduced to an actor-playing-God, and he is initiated into their cult. However, things take an unexpected turn when Tony realizes that the cult's intentions are not entirely pure and he is just another pawn in their game.
Meanwhile, Terry and Jenny are struggling with their own demons. Terry is a heroin addict and Jenny is torn between loyalty to her brother and her own sense of morality.
As the scam spirals out of control, the siblings find themselves out of their depth and Tony starts to unravel their plan. In a desperate attempt to salvage their scheme, Terry and Jenny resort to extreme measures that ultimately lead to devastating consequences.
