Planet Terror is a 2007 American action horror film written, directed, and edited by Robert Rodriguez. The film takes place in a small rural town, where a mysterious biochemical agent is released into the air, turning those exposed to it into flesh-eating zombies.
The film follows Cherry (Rose McGowan), a go-go dancer who loses a leg during the chaos. As the zombie plague spreads, Cherry and her old flame Wray (Freddy Rodriguez) team up with a group of survivors to fight their way through the hordes of undead.
The group includes Dr. Dakota Block (Marley Shelton), who tries to find a cure for the virus, and her estranged husband Dr. William Block (Josh Brolin), who is infected with the disease. The survivors face off against the infected townspeople, a military team trying to contain the outbreak, and a group of mutant soldiers led by a man known only as "Rapist" (played by Quentin Tarantino).
Planet Terror is an homage to classic exploitation films, with over-the-top violence, gore, and humor. The film features a cast of well-known actors and actresses, including Bruce Willis, Naveen Andrews, and Michael Biehn. It was released as part of a double feature with Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof under the title Grindhouse.
