Pitch Black is a science-fiction action-thriller film directed by David Twohy. The movie stars Vin Diesel as the dangerous and mysterious space convict Richard B. Riddick. After his transport ship crashes on a deserted planet, Riddick uses his heightened senses and combat skills to survive and evade capture from his fellow passengers- a group of civilians and mercenaries on their way to a distant planet.
When the sun sets on the planet and a total solar eclipse engulfs it, the surviving passengers soon discover that the darkness brings out the planet's deadly creatures- vicious, nocturnal monsters that hunt by sound and seem impervious to bullets and weapons.
The passengers soon realize that they need to work together to survive, and they turn to Riddick for help. Despite his ruthless reputation, Riddick proves to be the only one with the knowledge and skills to lead them to safety. What follows is a tense and thrilling race against time as they try to find a way off the planet before the next eclipse occurs and the creatures come out again.
The movie was praised for its unique atmosphere and strong performances from its cast, particularly Vin Diesel as the enigmatic Riddick. It spawned two sequels, The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick, and has since become a cult classic in the science-fiction genre.
