Pieces is a slasher film that was released in 1982. The film was directed by Juan Piquer Simón and features a cast of largely unknown actors. The film is notable for its over-the-top gore effects and its slasher film trappings.
The movie begins in Boston in 1942 where a young boy is caught by his mother while assembling a jigsaw puzzle of a nude woman. In a fit of rage, the mother beats the boy and throws away his puzzle and he retaliates by killing her with an ax.
The movie then jumps forward 40 years and the same killer has resurfaced on a college campus in Boston where he is brutally murdering female students and taking body parts as trophies. The school's dean turns to the police for help, but the investigation is headed by a detective named Lt. Bracken, who is struggling with his own personal demons.
As the body count continues to rise, Bracken becomes increasingly obsessed with catching the killer and puts his own life on the line to track him down. Along the way, Bracken uncovers a series of bizarre clues that lead him closer to the killer's identity.
Pieces is known for its graphic violence and gore, including scenes of dismemberment and other gruesome murders. Despite its low budget and B-movie status, the film has developed a cult following over the years and is often cited as a classic of the slasher genre.
