Picking Up the Pieces is a black comedy film directed by Alfonso Arau and released in 2000. The film stars Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, and Maria Grazia Cucinotta.
The story takes place in a small New Mexican village that is thrown into chaos when a severed hand is discovered. The hand becomes the center of attention as the villagers come to believe that it is a miracle of God. They start worshipping the hand and believe that it will bring them good luck and prosperity.
Meanwhile, a man named Tex (Woody Allen) arrives in town looking for the hand. He is the husband of Margaret (Sharon Stone), the woman to whom the hand belonged. Margaret was murdered by Tex, who dismembered her body and buried the parts all over town to cover up his crime. Now, Tex needs to find the hand before anyone else does, as it could be the key to incriminating him.
As the villagers begin to fight over the hand, Tex tries to retrieve it without anyone suspecting him. He enlists the help of a Mexican prostitute named Candy (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) to distract the town's attention while he digs up the hand.
The film is a satire of religious fanaticism, small-town mentality, and the absurdity of human behavior. It features a star-studded cast, including Kiefer Sutherland, Cheech Marin, David Schwimmer, and Elliott Gould. Despite the impressive cast, the film received negative reviews and was a box office failure.
