The man in question is named George Malley, played by John Travolta. George is a simple mechanic who lives in a small town in California. One night, while celebrating his birthday with friends, he witnesses a bright light descend from the sky. The next day, he begins to experience strange abilities like telekinesis and inexplicable levels of intelligence.
At first, George is reluctant to share his newfound abilities with anyone, fearing that he will be perceived as crazy. However, as he begins to unlock his potential, he attracts the attention of the government, who are interested in studying him.
