Phantom of the Megaplex is a Disney Channel original movie that follows seventeen-year-old Pete Riley, who is working at the premiere of a new movie with his siblings and friend, despite his wishes to attend a school dance. As the night progresses, strange things begin to happen, such as the projectionist disappearing and the sound effects going off on their own.
Pete soon realizes that these occurrences are all connected and are the work of a mysterious phantom who is haunting the Megaplex theater. With the help of his siblings and friends, Pete sets out to find the phantom and put an end to his mischievous behavior before it ruins the premiere and endangers the attendees.
Throughout the night, there are nods to classic Hollywood movies as well as homages to various horror movies, including The Phantom of the Opera. The film is a humorous twist on the classic haunted house story and includes wholesome family comedy that is characteristic of Disney Channel movies.
