Peeples is a 2013 romantic comedy directed and written by Tina Gordon Chism. The movie follows Wade Walker (played by Craig Robinson), a child psychologist who plans to propose to his girlfriend, Grace (played by Kerry Washington). When he learns that Grace has been keeping their relationship a secret from her wealthy political family, he decides to surprise her by showing up at their annual get-together at their Sag Harbor vacation home.
However, upon arriving, Wade quickly realizes that Grace's family, the Peeples, are far from perfect. Her father, Judge Peeples (played by David Alan Grier), is an overbearing and judgmental patriarch who disapproves of Wade's career as a therapist. Her mother, Daphne (played by S. Epatha Merkerson), is a former disco queen who is struggling with alcohol addiction, and her brother, Simon (played by Tyler James Williams), is a slacker who has never held down a job.
As Wade tries to fit in with the Peeples and win their approval, he secretly performs therapy sessions with each family member, using his skills to help them confront their issues and mend their relationships. Along the way, he also has to navigate Grace's resentful ex-boyfriend, Chris (played by Malcolm Barrett), who is still harboring feelings for her.
As the weekend progresses, tensions rise, secrets are revealed, and the Peeples are forced to confront their deep-rooted problems. In the end, Wade's unconventional methods of therapy lead to a happy ending for everyone involved.
