Alex Anderson is a talented photographer who has been fighting to land the creative director position for the magazine she works for. The last hurdle she has to cross to secure the job is to find and photograph the mysterious blue pearl that has been the subject of the bestseller by author Colin Page. Colin, on the other hand, is a struggling author who has been facing declining sales of his books and in danger of losing his publisher. He hopes to revitalize his career by writing about the rare blue pearl.
In order to achieve their individual objectives, the two travel to Fiji to embark on the quest for the blue pearl, making their way through the island oasis with the help of a friendly concierge named Kava. Along the way, Alex and Colin find themselves in a series of amusing and light-hearted mishaps, including losing their luggage and their guide. They finally stumble upon a local pearl farm owner, who informs them that the blue pearl is not only incredibly rare but also cursed.
As the search for the pearl continues, Alex and Colin find themselves catching feelings for one another. Despite their initial reluctance and the fact that they don't think their feelings could ever be reciprocated, the two start to develop a connection as they work together to find the pearl, navigating the beautiful island and its many challenges along the way.
When they finally do find the blue pearl, they are surprised to discover that it is not actually cursed but instead holds a deeper meaning that they both understand. In the end, Alex lands the creative director position that she was aiming for, and Colin's guest article revives his career. Most importantly, however, the two leave Fiji with cherished memories and a newfound love that they never saw coming.
