Tom Lawrence is a nervous high school senior who is visiting Port Chester University with his parents to decide if he wants to attend there. As they arrive on campus, they are immediately caught up in the chaos of a protest against a conservative group that wants to ban smoking on campus.
Tom is befriended by Droz, the leader of a group of misfit students known as The Pit, who take him under their wing and show him around campus. Along the way, Tom meets a colorful cast of characters, including a radical feminist, a stoned frat boy, and a militant minority activist.
As Tom immerses himself in college life, he begins to see the world through a new lens and question his own beliefs. But he also realizes that not everyone on campus is open-minded and accepting - he encounters opposition from the preppy Rand McPherson, who is determined to shut down The Pit and the party they plan to throw.
The climax of the film is the epic party, which brings together all the factions on campus - the conservatives, the liberals, the frat boys, and the minority groups - for a night of debauchery and chaos. The police are called, the party gets out of control, and in the end, The Pit is able to save their house from being shut down.
PCU is a raunchy, irreverent satire of political correctness and college culture, which was ahead of its time in its commentary on identity politics and the clash of ideologies on campus. It features a breakout performance by Jeremy Piven as Droz, who delivers hilarious one-liners and memorable speeches throughout the film.
