The young AI prodigy, Paulie (played by a newcomer to Hollywood), is a high school student who has already made significant advancements in the field of robotics. However, when he applies to a prestigious robotics lab in California, he is rejected by the professor in charge. Devastated and determined to prove himself, Paulie steals a van from his parents' garage and sets off on a cross-country road trip to Minnesota to track down the professor who rejected him.
Along the way, Paulie encounters a variety of challenges and adventures, including a run-in with the law, a wild ride through the Rocky Mountains, and a chance meeting with a group of teenage hackers who help him get past the security measures at the robotics lab. When Paulie finally confronts the professor, he discovers that the rejection was not personal, but based on the professor's belief that Paulie was not yet ready for the responsibilities of working in such a high-profile position.
Undeterred, Paulie convinces the professor to give him a chance to prove himself, promising to work harder than anyone else in the lab. Over the course of the next few months, Paulie makes groundbreaking advancements in robotics that revolutionize the industry and earn him a spot as one of the youngest scientists ever to work at the lab.
In the end, Paulie returns home to his proud parents, grateful for all of the obstacles he faced along the way that helped him to become the successful AI prodigy he had always dreamed he could be. The movie ends with a shot of Paulie sitting in his parents' garage, surrounded by the latest tools and equipment, ready to take on his next big challenge.
