Patch Adams is a semi-biographical film about the real-life Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, played by Robin Williams. The movie follows Patch as he enrolls in medical school after a stay in a mental institution for attempting suicide. At medical school, Patch clashes with the traditional methods of teaching and healing, believing that laughter, joy, and personal connections with patients are just as important as medicine.
Patch starts his own clinic, the Gesundheit Institute, where he treats patients for free and uses unconventional methods to bring joy and laughter into their lives.
