Past Midnight is a 1991 thriller film directed by Jan Eliasberg and starring Rutger Hauer, Natasha Richardson, and Clancy Brown. The film tells the story of a man named Ben Jordan (Hauer), who is released from prison after serving fifteen years for the murder of his wife. He is assigned a social worker, named Laura Mathews (Richardson), to help him transition back into society.
Laura is initially skeptical of Ben's claims of innocence, but as she investigates his case, she begins to believe that he may have been wrongly convicted. She interviews witnesses and other people involved in the case, and uncovers evidence that suggests that Ben's wife may have been involved in an affair with her psychiatrist, who later testified against Ben in court.
As Laura becomes more emotionally involved in Ben's case, she also begins to develop feelings for him. Her friends warn her that Ben is dangerous and that she is putting herself in danger by getting too close to him.
Meanwhile, Ben struggles to adjust to life outside of prison and is haunted by the memories of his past. He also becomes increasingly paranoid and violent as he tries to clear his name and find out who really killed his wife.
The film builds to a tense and suspenseful climax as Laura and Ben race against time to expose the truth and clear Ben's name before it's too late. In the end, Laura must decide whether to trust her heart or listen to her friends' warnings and stay away from Ben.
