Paprika is a 2006 Japanese animated science-fiction film directed by Satoshi Kon. The film is based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui and follows the story of a research specialist Dr. Atsuko Chiba, who uses a powerful therapeutic device called the DC Mini to enter her patients' dreams and help solve their psychological problems. Against her mentor's orders, she uses an alias, Paprika, to keep her identity hidden.
The machine is stolen, and the dreams of the patients are infiltrated by a mysterious entity known as the "dream eater." Paprika teams up with a detective named Toshimi Konakawa, who is also undergoing therapy under her real identity, and together they try to uncover the identity of the culprit and stop them from causing chaos in both the dream world and reality.
As they delve deeper into the investigation, they discover that the DC Mini has some unexpected side effects and can alter reality. They are soon trapped in a surreal world, facing their worst fears and hidden desires.
