Pain & Gain is a dark comedy crime film directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie in lead roles. The movie is based on a true story and follows the criminal activities of Daniel Lugo, an ambitious and obsessive fitness trainer who dreams of becoming rich and living the American dream.
Lugo recruits Paul Doyle, a recently released convict from prison, and Adrian Doorbal, a bodybuilder with a major steroid addiction, to join his scheme to kidnap and extort Victor Kershaw, a wealthy businessman who he believes deserves to be taken down a notch. Using deceit and brute force, they eventually manage to capture Kershaw and extract a confession from him. But after exhausting all of his assets, including his house and business, they become greedy and refuse to let him go.
Things start to go wrong for the trio when Kershaw manages to escape and alert the authorities. However, Lugo and his gang remain confident that they will get away with their crime. As the investigation heats up, the three become increasingly embroiled in a web of lies, corruption, and violence, leading to their eventual downfall.
The film is a satirical take on the absurdity of the American dream and the lengths people will go to achieve it. It highlights the brutal and ruthless nature of the characters, while also poking fun at their incompetence and lack of intelligence. Despite its comedic elements, Pain & Gain is a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed, ego, and the allure of power.
