Over the Top is a 1987 sports drama film directed by Menahem Golan. The film follows the story of Lincoln Hawk, a struggling truck driver who dreams of becoming a successful arm-wrestler and reconnecting with his estranged son, Michael.
Hawk's life takes a new turn when he is hired to transport a load of heavy machinery to the World Armwrestling Championship in Las Vegas. Hawk sees this as an opportunity to win the championship and take home the prize money, but more importantly, to earn the respect of his son.
Along the way, Hawk forms a strong bond with his son, who is initially reluctant to accept his father and his rough around the edges ways. Hawk also faces off against his ex-wife's wealthy and powerful father, who wants to keep the two estranged apart and will stop at nothing to ensure Hawk doesn't win the championship and regain his son's affection.
The film features intense arm-wrestling scenes, as well as emotional moments as Hawk tries to connect with his son and rebuild their relationship. Sylvester Stallone gives a powerful performance as Lincoln Hawk and the film features a great supporting cast, including Robert Loggia as the villainous grandfather and David Mendenhall as the young Michael.
