Outland is a science-fiction action movie released in 1981, directed by Peter Hyams. The movie is set in the future and takes place on Io, a mining colony in Jupiter's orbit, where a federal Marshal named William T. O'Niel (played by Sean Connery) has been assigned to keep the peace.
As he investigates a series of mysterious deaths among the miners, O'Niel discovers that a powerful drug called "amphetimine" is being smuggled into the colony, causing psychotic episodes among the workers. The drug is being brought in by a ruthless group of criminals, led by the corrupt mining company's boss, Mark Sheppard (played by Peter Boyle).
When O'Niel confronts Sheppard about the drug operations, he is warned to back off. But O'Niel, determined to rid the colony of corruption, continues his investigation, risking his own life. After his wife leaves him and takes their son, O'Niel is left with nothing to lose.
As the drug ring's assassins arrive on Io to take him out, O'Niel prepares himself for a final showdown against the criminals. He succeeds in killing all the assassins and the top members of the drug cartel in a climactic battle.
Ultimately, O'Niel is left exhausted and battered but victorious, having saved the colony from turmoil and corruption. The movie ends with him watching the sunrise of Io, knowing that his fight is far from over.
