Unraveling Lives: The Idiot Who Saved Us All

Comedy,Drama  United States of America

Our Idiot Brother is a comedy-drama film directed by Jesse Peretz and released in 2011. The film stars Paul Rudd as Ned Rochlin, a lovable and simple-minded organic farmer who is arrested for selling marijuana to a uniformed police officer. After his release from prison, Ned is shunned by his ex-girlfriend Janet (Kathryn Hahn) and forced to leave his farm, so he turns to his three sisters for help.

Liz (Emily Mortimer) is a wealthy housewife and mother of two who is struggling to keep her marriage together. Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) is a stressed-out magazine writer who is desperate for a promotion. Natalie (Zooey Deschanel) is a bohemian artist who is living with her girlfriend, Cindy (Rashida Jones), and can't commit to anything. Despite their differences, the sisters agree to let Ned stay with them for a while.

Ned's presence disrupts each sister's carefully constructed life. Liz's husband (Steve Coogan) is uncomfortable with Ned's laid-back attitude and blunt honesty. Miranda uses Ned to get a scoop on a famous neighbor (Adam Scott), but her article ends up backfiring. Natalie tries to help Ned sell his produce at a farmers' market, but her free-spirited approach clashes with his straightforward honesty.

As Ned spends time with each sister and her family, he inadvertently forces them to confront their own issues and reevaluate their priorities. Along the way, Ned forms unlikely connections with the people he meets, including a prison buddy (T.J. Miller) and a kind-hearted cop (Matthew Mindler).

Our Idiot Brother is a heartwarming and charming film about family, forgiveness and the power of honesty.
