The graduate student's name is Samantha, and she is studying paranormal activity. She believes that by completing her research on the history of the Ouija board, she will be able to write a book that will not only get her mother out of debt but also establish her reputation in the academic world.
Samantha convinces her friends to come with her to an old house that was once owned by a family that was rumored to have participated in occult activities. She hopes that by staying in the house and conducting a series of experiments, she will be able to tap into the supernatural energy that still lingers there.
However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when the group unwittingly summons an evil entity that has been trapped in the house for decades. The entity possesses one of Samantha's friends, and from there, it starts to play a game with the entire group. As the game progresses, the entity becomes more and more powerful, putting all of their lives in danger.
Samantha realizes that she needs to find a way to defeat the entity before it's too late. She uncovers a dark secret that has been hidden within the house for years and realizes that she is the only one who can put an end to the evil once and for all.
