Otherhood is a 2019 comedy-drama movie directed by Cindy Chupack and starring Patricia Arquette, Angela Bassett, and Felicity Huffman as three middle-aged friends from suburban Pennsylvania trying to reconnect with their adult sons who live in New York City. The movie is based on the book Whatever Makes You Happy by William Sutcliffe.

Carol (Arquette), Gillian (Bassett), and Helen (Huffman) are three friends who have devoted themselves to their sons, but they are feeling estranged from them as they enter adulthood and seem too busy for their mothers. On Mother's Day, the three women decide to surprise their sons with a visit to New York City, where they hope to bond with them and fix their strained relationships.

However, things don't go as planned as the women discover that their sons are not the people they thought they were. Matt (Jake Lacy) is a struggling actor who is dating a much older woman (Becky Ann Baker), Daniel (Jake Hoffman) is a workaholic art consultant who is about to get married to a high-strung fiancé (Heidi Gardner), and Paul (Sinqua Walls) is a successful musician who is hiding his homosexuality from his mother.

As the women spend time with their sons, they encounter various obstacles that challenge their preconceptions about motherhood, love, and identity. They also find themselves navigating their own midlife crises, as they confront their regrets, insecurities, and unfulfilled desires.

Otherhood is a heartwarming and funny movie about the complexities of parent-child relationships, the power of female friendship, and the value of self-discovery. The movie also features supporting performances by Timothy Busfield, Stephen Kunken, and Afton Williamson.
