Oscar

Comedy  United States of America

Oscar is a 1991 comedy film directed by John Landis and starring Sylvester Stallone, Marisa Tomei, and Tim Curry. The film is based on the French play Oscar by Claude Magnier, which was also adapted into the 1967 British film of the same name.

Angelo "Snaps" Provolone (Stallone) is a mobster in 1930s New York who is known for his eccentric personality and quick temper. When his father (Kirk Douglas) dies, he promises him that he will leave the world of crime and become an honest businessman. However, this proves to be a difficult task as Snaps has never worked a day in his life and has no experience in running a legitimate business.

To fulfill his promise, Snaps hires a group of incompetent employees to help him run his business, including his accountant, Anthony Rossano (Chazz Palminteri), and his secretary, Lisa Provolone (Tomei). Meanwhile, his rival gangsters, led by Vendetti (Curry), are trying to sabotage his efforts and take over his territory.

As Snaps struggles to navigate the world of legitimate business, he also has to deal with his daughter's (Marisa Tomei) impending wedding to a man he doesn't approve of, and the constant interference of the police and the IRS.

Throughout the film, Snaps and his employees get into various comedic situations as they try to make the business profitable and avoid the attention of the authorities and the rival gangsters. In the end, Snaps discovers that his father's will leaves him with a worthless casino, and he decides to return to a life of crime, much to the relief of his employees who were struggling to keep the business afloat.
